We are Hampshire Pride!
Solidarity, Inclusivity, Community
Hampshire Pride first came to life in Autumn of 2014 when a small group decided that it was time Hampshire stood up and showed it’s solidarity with LGBT+ people. The original team was made up of staff and students from the University of Winchester alongside members of the Hampshire County Council team. They spent months busying away; planning, organising and spreading the word about this brand new celebration of love and acceptance and then, Hampshire Pride was born! |
Why February?
A lot of people ask us why we chose February when the other pride celebrations take place in the summer. Well, the answer is an easy one; February is LGBT History Month in the UK – what better month to celebrate our heritage, remember how far we’ve come in such a short time and look to the brighter times of the future. It also served as somewhat of a winter warmer in the dreary month of February; ‘…Diamonds in the snow, sparkle!’ Now in its fifth year, Hampshire Pride is going from strength the strength with new venues, new faces and more fun to be had. And whilst the committee has grown to include some new faces, one thing remains the same…love is love! |

Community, Inclusivity and Solidarity are our main values, which we deeply believe in throughout everything we do!
Our Purposes
The purposes of the (small unincorporated) charity are promoting equality and diversity for the public benefit, and actively pursuing the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and/or gender identity of all persons living in Hampshire (the area of benefit), in line with the charity’s values of community, inclusivity and solidarity.
These purposes will be achieved by:
(1) raising awareness and educating the public about the issues and difficulties affecting the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and wider (LGBTQ+) people;
(2) cultivating a sentiment in favour of equality and diversity, by celebrating the life, history and future of the LGBTQ+ community;
(3) staging an annual, inclusive and family-friendly LGBTQ+ pride festival at the end of February, and smaller events throughout the year.
